As industrial and electronic equipment continues to evolve toward cleaner industrial design and increasingly compact assemblies, engineers are often challenged to balance aesthetics, service access, manufacturability, and retention performance. Traditional mechanical latching systems and visible hardware frequently require compromises in one or more of these areas.
PEM® GHOST™ Magnetic Release Fasteners provide an alternative approach by enabling concealed attachment with tool-free access and no externally visible hardware. The fastening system remains completely hidden within the assembly and is disengaged through magnetic actuation, allowing panels and access covers to be removed without tools while maintaining a clean exterior appearance.
Unlike conventional snap features or rigid latch designs, GHOST fasteners incorporate a floating pin architecture capable of accommodating both radial and axial misalignment during installation and operation. This ability to tolerate stack-up variation can simplify assembly processes and reduce sensitivity to manufacturing tolerances in high-volume production environments.
The technology is particularly well suited for applications requiring frequent service access without sacrificing industrial design requirements. Typical applications include medical equipment, telecommunications infrastructure, datacom systems, architectural panels, commercial displays, retail fixtures, and premium electronic enclosures where hidden fastening and repeatable access are critical design considerations.
Because performance requirements vary significantly across applications, PEM offers engineering support and customization options beyond standard configurations to optimize retention force, release characteristics, and installation geometry for specific use cases.
